🎂

Initial Enrollment (IEP)

The 7-month window around your 65th birthday — the cleanest time to start Medicare.

🍂

Annual Enrollment (AEP)

October 15 – December 7 every year. Switch plans for the next calendar year.

🔁

MA Open Enrollment (OEP)

January 1 – March 31. One free Medicare Advantage change per year.

🚪

Special Enrollment (SEP)

Move, lose employer coverage, or qualify for Extra Help — special rules let you enroll outside the normal windows.

Initial Enrollment Period (IEP)

A 7-month window: the 3 months before your 65th birthday month, your birthday month itself, and the 3 months after. Enroll before your birthday month for coverage on day one of your birthday month — the smoothest path.

Annual Enrollment Period (AEP)

October 15 through December 7 every year. You can switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan, change Advantage plans, change Part D plans, or drop back to Original Medicare. Changes take effect January 1.

A licensed Ohio agent will compare your current plan to next year's options — and call you back within 24 hours.

Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (OEP)

January 1 through March 31. If you're already on a Medicare Advantage plan, you get one chance to switch to a different MA plan or go back to Original Medicare. This window does not apply to people on Original Medicare alone.

Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs)

  • Moving to a new ZIP with different plan options.
  • Losing employer or union coverage — a 2-month SEP for Part D or MA.
  • Qualifying for Extra Help / Medicaid — quarterly SEPs to change plans.
  • 5-star plan available in your area — switch any time, once a year.
  • Plan termination — your carrier exits your county.
