Original Medicare only covers medically necessary services — for example, dental work needed before heart surgery, or cataract surgery (but not the post-op glasses beyond the basic pair). Routine cleanings, fillings, eye exams, and hearing aids are not covered.
What Medicare Advantage typically covers
